John Dickinson essays Born in Talbot County, MD., November 8, 1732, John Dickinson had a big effect on the way American History happened. He was born into a relatively wealthy family, his father being first judge to the Court of Pleas in Delaware. He got his education at the Temple in London, studying law. That was the most prestigious education that a student could hope for. John was very lucky as a young man being born into a rich family and getting the best education he could hope for. He was much better off then some of the people he would work for in later years. Not as many people have heard of John Dickinson as they have of George Washington and Benjamin Franklin and that is due to his steadfast opposition to the Americas becoming independent. Dickinson tried to mollify the language and actions of the congress because he was opposed to the separation from Great Britain. He also did not vote for or sign the Declaration of Independence. John Dickinson had a nickname, Penman of the Revolution, he was called this because he wrote many things about the revolution and how he felt about it. Some of the things that he wrote were Letters of a Pennsylvania Farmer, this was a series of essays published by Benjamin Franklin in 1768. These essays were also translated into French and published in Paris.
